This year’s biggest, and most pleasant, surprise is Nasir Adderly out of Delaware. Adderley emerged from pretty much nowhere to be one one of the top defensive backs in this draft class. As it so happens, the New York Giants are in a position where they could spend an early round draft pick to secure a long-term answer to man the back end of their defense. Could the Giants look at the Fighting Blue Hen as an eventual replacement for Antoine Bethea? MeasurablesProsRangy safety with good instincts. Able to play in man coverage and shows good awareness in zones. Generally does a good job of keeping the play in front of him.Quick to come downhill to make a play.Physical and competitive safety with a good motor. Generally a reliable tackler. Shows good ball skills.Able to play near the line of scrimmage as well as in a deep zone. Capably navigates crowded areas.ConsNeeds to get better taking on blockers.Long speed is only special. Will face a jump in competition from Delaware to the NFL.Prospect VideoWhat They’re Saying Nasir Adderley is the latest small school prospect to serve as a reminder that high quality football players come from every level. Adderley has high end coverage skills and tackling, making him a desirable candidate to start in a single high role on defense. His projection would pair best in a man scheme, where he is then able to focus on prowling for the football as compared to passing off coverages. Adderley has excellent anticipation and ball skills, can be an impact starter. - Kyle Crabbs (The Draft Network - Scouting Report) Does He Fit The Giants?Adderley should be a good fit for what the Giants like to do on defense. He is typically used in deep zone coverage, and passers rarely targeted him there his senior year. While Delaware ran a lot quarter coverage, Adderley has the traits to give confidence that he will be able to play in single-high safety looks. He will face a significant jump in competition leaping from Delaware to the NFL, but he should be able to handle it. Adderley does a lot of what the Giants want from their free safety. He has a background as a cornerback letting him play in man coverage near the line of scrimmage, is quick to come down and play the run , and is a capable blitzer. He could deal with blocks better, but that should come with coaching. He is a competitive, physical player who shows no hesitation to come downhill and lay hits, while also generally wrapping up to limit yards after contact. If the Giants are willing to spend a high draft pick on a safety, Adderley would be one of their best options. Giants, Browns offer their sides of the story"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections New York Giants NewsGiants Training Camp 2016Giants vs. Eagles 2015, Week 17New York Giants NewsGiants’ trade of Odell Beckham, Olivier Vernon to Cleveland Browns is officialNew,550commentsGiants, Browns offer their sides of the storyEDTShareTweetShareShareGiants’ trade of Odell Beckham, Olivier Vernon to Cleveland Browns is officialCleveland GM John DorseyBrian Spurlock-USA TODAY SportsThe deal is done. Odell Beckham Jr. and Olivier Vernon are now officially former New York Giants. Both teams have now issued releases confirming the trade. For NFL paperwork purposes, the Beckham and Vernon trades go down as one deal. The Giants give up the two star players. In return, they get guard Kevin Zeitler , safety Jabrill Peppers, Cleveland’s first round pick (17th) and a third-round pick (95th overall). The previous swap of fourth- and fifth-round picks (Nos. 132 and 155) is cancelled, so the Giants keep the 132nd overall pick, a fourth-rounder.The deal is contingent on the players passing physicals with their new teams, which are expected to be completed no later than Monday.“With the first-round draft choice, that gives us six and 17,” said Gettleman. “As we continue to build this team, you need draft pick capital. This trade enabled us to do that.”Barring another trade, the Giants will select two players in the first round for the first time since 1984 when they took linebacker Carl Banks and offensive lineman William Roberts.Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports and James Lang-USA TODAY SportsHere is what Gettleman said about trading Beckham: “The New York Football Giants would like to thank Odell Beckham, Jr. for his contributions. We truly wish him well in Cleveland, and we want to wish OV the best and nothing but success for both of them.”Zeitler, a 29-year-old seven-year veteran, will become the Giants’ right guard. “We’re very excited we were able to get a quality NFL guard in Kevin Zeitler ,” said Gettleman. “We’ve already had him in here, and he passed his physical. That really adds another piece to the offensive line repair that we have going. Now, we have most of the line under control for the next couple years. It’s a great opportunity for us to build stability on our offensive line. We’re excited about that.”Peppers, a third-year player, was a first-round pick by Cleveland in 2017.“We’re very excited to have Jabrill,” said Gettleman. “A lot of people remember him from his days at Paramus Catholic. He’s coming back home. I spoke to him last night and he’s excited and thankful and couldn’t wait to get here. Jabrill is a quality safety in this league and he is a legitimate linchpin on the back end of your defense. The way this game is being played, your safeties are critical in pass defense.”Gettleman, criticized for not seeming to have a plan, disagreed with that notion.“You can win while you build a roster,” said Gettleman. “We do have a plan, and this is a part of it.”The Browns posted a celebratory story on their official website.Cleveland GM John Dorsey on Beckham:Yes, the folks in Cleveland are a tad excited about their new wide receiver.Beckham on his “fresh start” in Cleveland:Vernon on his surroundings:Scott R.
