Chris Eubank Jr wants to become the biggest star in Las Vegas since Floyd Mayweather
Chris Eubank Jr admits the "ultimate goal" is to make his name in America and wants to become the biggest star in Las Vegas since Floyd Mayweather. The 28-year-old is a few months away from his big domestic clash with George Groves in the semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series at Manchester Arena on February 17. But Eubank Jr is already looking beyond the sbo British scene, with long-term ambitions of breaking into the US market after sampling the spectacular events of a Mayweather fight week in Vegas."That's the ultimate goal for any fighter, to fight in those big casinos, on that strip in Las Vegas, Madison Square Garden, New York - all those iconic venues," said Eubank Jr, who trained alongside Mayweather for his farewell bout against Conor McGregor in August.
Asked who can recreate Mayweather's hype in America's fight capital, he said: "Chris Eubank Jr will, in the not too distant future. "In the very near future, that's where I'm going to be - up on the side of the MGM [Grand], name in bright lights. "Listen, I've made a great name for myself in this country and I will continue to do so, but it's definitely always been a dream of mine to transform that name over to the American soil, where so many great fighters have proven themselves and become legends." Mayweather returned to retirement sbo after extending his unbeaten record to 50 victories with a 10th round stoppage win over UFC star McGregor. Eubank Jr says the secret to the 40-year-old's legacy is simply summed up by Mayweather's 'hard work, dedication' mantra and the fighter nicknamed 'Next Gen' believes he follows a similar approach to the sport. "Like he says, hard work and dedication," said Eubank Jr. "He lives the life. He doesn't drink. He may put on a show for the cameras, but behind closed doors, he's dedicated, just the same as me."
