The Arsenal midfielder was named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for friendlies against Italy and the Netherlands later this month and could don a Three Lions shirt for the first time since defeat to Iceland at Euro 2016.
Since then Wilshere has slowly rebuilt his fitness, first on loan at Bournemouth and then in an Arsenal side for whom he has played 33 games across all competitions this season. Wilshere has begun to establish himself as a key player in Arsene Wenger’s side in recent weeks and is convinced he can do the same for Southgate.I understand that I haven’t played for England for a while so people are going to be watching me but as I’m confident in my own ability I’m looking forward to it,” Wilshere told reporters.
